What is Part P Registration ?

Since January 2005 it has been a requirement that electrical installation work undertaken in domestic dwellings must follow the new, Part P Building Regulations (Electrical Safety in Dwellings).

Very briefly, these regulations require that works, repairs, maintenance etc., on "electrical installations", in certain areas of a property, known as "notifiable" works, must either be carried out by a "competent person" or approved by the local authority Building Control department, before and after the works are carried out.

If a competent person does not carry out the works an officer from the Building Control department will wish to visit the property and inspect the works and may require the applicant to submit suitable drawings.  In practice this option is both costly and time consuming (Estimated to be between £100 and £200 per inspection).

A competent person is someone who is currently registered with an approved self-certification scheme. The competent person can "self-certify" the relevant works and has a responsibility to provide the customer and the local authority building control department with the relevant documents relating to the notifiable works.

P F Electrical is registered with the NAPIT (The National Association for Professional Inspectors and Testers) competent persons scheme and can therefore provide all the necessary documentation required for Part P
