Notifiable work
|
|
Guidance should always be taken from your local Building Control department or a qualified electrician. No responsibility is taken for the definitions below. Non-notifiable works include repairs, replacements and maintenance; and additions or alterations to existing circuits outside kitchens and bathrooms. Replacing power sockets, replacing a damaged power cable, replacing a light switch or ceiling rose, adding lighting points, sockets and fused spurs to existing circuits as long as they are not in a special location or special installation and do not require the addition of a new circuit. Notifiable work includes all works in special locations / installations such as kitchens, bathrooms, shower rooms, saunas, swimming pools. Additionally work in any other part of a dwelling that involves the addition of a new circuit is also classed a notifiable. The term 'dwelling' includes the grounds of a residence, hence garden lighting and wiring to, and in, out-houses is also classed as notifiable. You can get more information from your local authority's Building Control Department who publish a free 'Explanatory Booklet on the Building Regulations'. |
