Many houses still have old wiring. This can be unsafe and a
potential fire hazard It can also affect the value of
your house, as old wiring is often highlighted as a issue
during a buyers survey.
If you have old wiring in your house, for example fabric or rubber
covered flex you should seriously consider having a complete rewire.
Some other indicators of aged wiring are given below. Any one
of these on its own does not mean your wiring is unsafe, an
inspection & test together with some routine maintenance may be
all that is required. If however several of these indicators
apply, it may be worthwhile considering a rewire.
1. Does your fuse box have replaceable fuse wire?
2. Do your plugs or sockets get hot or have scorch marks?
3. Do fuses blow regularly?
4. Do any of you sockets, switches or light fittings have wooden
back plates?
5. Do you have lights that use the old, twisted type flex?
6. Has your wiring been modified in an extensive and unprofessional
manner?
7. Do you have round pin plugs and sockets?
8. Are your cables missing an earth wire?
9. Is your wiring properly routed and protected from being damaged?
10. Has your wiring been checked in the last 10 years? |
